Various Causes of Kidney Disease

Blood vessels in kidney.Failure of kidney may be caused by changeable factor (lifestyle) or unchangeable factor (genetic inheritance).

Kidney disease is usually caused by unhealthy lifestyles which can be change to lessen the rate of incident and slow the disease progress.

Kidney disease caused by various factors, either it is inherited since birth or having it later then. Nevertheless, the cause of the kidney disease usually cannot be determined. But any form of the disease that affects the blood vessel or other kidney structure could cause kidney failure.

Certain factors may also cause individual to have higher risk of suffering kidney disease. Especially, those who experience diabetes, high-blood-pressure, older age and the group which have history of the kidney disease in their family must take the necessary additional precautions because the probability for them to experience kidney disease is vastly higher.

Some people suffer kidney disease because of inheritance factor, as in the case polycystic kidney disease (PKD). A person who has PKD will have cyst tumor in the kidney. Gradually, the cyst will take over the kidney mass, then affect the kidney function and eventually cause the failure of kidney to function. Although the damage to the kidneys generally only detectable after a long period, kidney disease resulted from genetic factor can appear at an earlier level.

In some cases, kidney function problem is traceable even before the baby is born. This is often observed among patients of autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD) which is rarely found.

Those who experience growth problem that prevents a normal kidney formation may also experience the kidney problem at an early age.

Although it is difficult to determine the natural characteristic feature of a person, diseases such as diabetes and high-blood-pressure are preventable by adopting a healthy lifestyle. This is important because diabetes and high-blood-pressure make two main causes of kidney disease that causes kidney function failure.

Data from the 14th Malaysian Dialysis and Transplant Registry Report 2006 confirmed this fact where 57 percent from the cases of the disease kidney found to have been caused by diabetes, followed by high-blood-pressure which include six percent from every case which recorded. Excessive sugar in the blood and blood pressure which were too high act as poison that attack and affect the blood vessel in kidney.

The disease does not only affect the kidney from early stage, in fact it aggravates condition by accelerating the spread of the kidney disease.

Patient whose taking too much pain reliever medicine should also be warned on risk of suffering kidney disease. A thorough questionnaire often found that patients that usually have history of chronic headache, backache, fatigue and weakness in long period may cause usage of this pain reliever medication continuously.

In Australia, renal disease effect of pain reliever drug had fallen dramatically after the stated drug is banned from being sell over the counter (without doctor’s prescription).

It needs to be stressed that only through continuous and long period use of pain reliever that the kidney problem starts to arise. Damage to the kidneys may also happen with the use long-term use of Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) such as aspirin and ibuprofen.

Because variety of factors which raise problem to the kidney, a person must be aware the difference between the factors that can be controlled and factors that cannot be controlled which influence the kidney health.

Though genetic condition of a person may not be altered, the change in dietary habits and lifestyle can bring benefit in the efforts to prevent and delay the spread of the kidney disease.
