When confronting uncomfortable situation, we have choices to feel angry, or face it open mind and heart.
Anger is a normal reaction owned by every people and it is needed to make us become braver to face challenges.
Dr Tim Murphy, an American psychology consultant, defined anger as a strong reaction stimulated by negative feeling and ends by several behaviors which often are not appropriate with the situation.
When a person feels angry, the anger becomes like a strong ‘power’ and if not controlled, it can give negative impact to the individual and his or her family.
Usually anger is classified as a bad quality. But anger is considered good when it become a tool to stimulate a person’s determination to work harder to achieve successfulness by appropriate way. It functions to stop feeling of frustration, stress and fade away physical or emotional pain or trauma.
However, it is not easy to change anger to become a positive thing because not many can channel the ‘power’ to constructive things.
People who can control anger are actually indirectly elevate their self image, whether on the eyes of their surrounding people or religiously.
Most people make anger as a negative characteristic when:
- Channeling the anger toward inappropriate places (like yelling at other people whom has nothing to do with your reason of anger)
- Holding the anger
- Becoming a bully or abuser
- Prolonging the anger
- Using anger as a reason to evade other feelings like compassion, love (including towards spouse or own family member)
- Trapped in unhealthy style of anger; which not only can affect one own health but also damage social relationship with peoples around.
There are people who believe that they were born ‘hot tempered’ but the fact is it has no relation with genetic or biochemistry of the body because it is more influenced by thought and belief.
